For more than 25 years Undercover, led by founder and head designer Jun Takahashi, has occupied a peculiar position on the fashion landscape. The Tokyo label is founded on the playful mocking of both high fashion and streetwear’s norms, an approach encapsulated in their “We make noise not clothes” motto.
Though the Undercover name has gained particular traction thanks to the label's conceptual collections, theatrical runway shows, and high-profile pop-culture collaborations, high-quality, everyday staples form just as important a part of their collections. While some of these staples serve as vehicles for Takahashi's high-concept seasonal graphics, with pieces such as the Undercover Back Pocket Hooded Sweat in black, the Undercover designer takes classic silhouettes, and through subtle alterations brings them into the Undercover universe.
The Undercover Centipede Heavy Sweatpants in black are relaxed-fit, classic sweatpants given the Undercover treatment. These sweatpants feature a subtle gesture towards this season's conceptual elements via an embroidered centipede motif, used by Takahashi in the recent 'Fallen Man' runway show both for its visual resemblance of a target and its form as a kind of armour. These pants also feature a wide ribbed top band, welt pockets at the sides, one back patch pocket, and elasticated bottom cuffs.
